Direction for 2024...

After some time spent viewing Youtube videos and various other sources dealing with astrophotography, I think the direction that most appeals to me is to concentrate on using the Seestar S50. The ease of setting up of this 'smart telescope' is especially advantageous for the extremely limited view of the sky available at home base due to the almost complete cover of trees on the block.

In particular I am intrigued by the nature of the data in astronomical image files. The prospect of exploring ways to analyse and process this data is especially appealing. Coupled with the pleasure obtained by coding my own applications, experiments in analysis of the data contained in the output FITS format files of the Seestar S50 seems like a good direction to proceed.

To this end I already have 3 examples of different types of objects (M42, IC434 and NGC4216) which will be useful to test any algorithms that might be developed. It should be noted that in the last couple of months the absence of clear skies accounts for the paucity of the data.
